Our Vision
Most dog care and dog training have become industrialized, faceless franchises focused on min-maxing profit. Downtown Dog in the Country represents a return to a craft based operation, self sustaining but focused on trust and bringing peace to your family and beloved companions.
We specialize in helping families navigate the every day challenges of dog ownership - managing dogs in social settings and public spaces, setting up first time dog owners for success with their puppies, and analyzing home dynamics to develop a plan to address friction during daily coexistence.
We believe that the best security is competence, and strive to help owners develop, train, and maintain calm, reliable function with their dog.
Meet the Team
Jessica Cargill-Reese
Owner and Lead Trainer
Jessica turned from pursuit of a Ph. D in Behavioral Ecology to the creation of DDITC as an effort of love, following in the footsteps of the masters of dog training who came before her. She is a dedicated dog nerd, and has come to really love her clients and their pups.
Clayton Reese
Kennel Manager
Clayton specializes in ethology, paleontology, mammalogy, hunting and livestock guardian dogs, sled and wolfdogs. His role is to ensure safe group dynamics, assess dog temperaments, and help develop training plans for managing all dogs safely and calmly. He also manages the regenerative agriculture of the facility.
Shala Sims
Groomer and Trainer
Shala is an award-winning exhibitor and trainer of pet, show, herding, agility and service dogs, as well as a credentialed Veterinary Technician and OSU alumnus
